Accelerate Auto names Shannon Miller as new Executive Director
Newly-hired Executive Director engaged to solidify leadership ranks and deliver on the association’s programming and growth plans
TORONTO, JANUARY 9, 2025 // — Accelerate Auto is pleased to announce the hiring of Shannon Miller, a seasoned industry leader in the newly-created role of Executive Director.
Accelerate Auto is a not-for-profit focused on increasing representation of Black talent across Canada’s automotive industry.
“Until now, Accelerate Auto has been able to achieve its impressive growth, run by a volunteer board and supported with one program manager,” said Christopher Nabeta, the organization’s Executive Chairman. “With the hiring of Shannon Miller, we are excited that we have the right resource in place to help deliver on the organization’s bold and ambitious goals.”
Shannon Miller is no stranger to Accelerate Auto, as she was involved with the association in her previous role as Project Lead, Talent Strategy & Workforce Planning with the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN).
“I have enjoyed working with Accelerate Auto and I understand and respect the work the organization’s founders have been doing to help increase opportunities for Black talent in Canada’s automotive industry,” said Miller. “I’m excited to come aboard and help provide the support and oversight to help many of those programs and activities come to life.”
Miller’s previous work experience in a variety of non-profit and automotive industry roles makes her the ideal candidate for the position. Miller has a Bachelor of Arts in Labour Studies and a Master of Arts, Work & Society degree from McMaster University, with a concentration on automotive industry workforce trends.
Miller spoke briefly at an Accelerate Auto partner’s luncheon in December, and expressed her enthusiasm for the new role which started in January.
Accelerate Auto delivers impactful programming built around its four pillars of Awareness, Development, Mentorship and Community. Among other initiatives, Accelerate Auto is working closely with various school boards and colleges, and is engaging in speaking opportunities and other engagements to introduce the auto industry as an attractive career option.
The founding members of the organization represent dealerships, manufacturers, industry associations, the aftermarket, suppliers and the media.
