New Accelerate Auto program provides wage subsidies to employers hiring Black talent

Accelerate Auto launches the Access to Work Program, providing employers wage subsidies of up to $750 per week for 10 weeks for Black talent hired from Ontario.

MISSISSAUGA, ON, December 5, 2023 — Accelerate Auto, a not-for-profit focused on increasing representation of Black talent across Canada’s automotive industry, launched the Accelerate Auto Access to Work Program today, an initiative aimed at providing valuable work opportunities for young professionals, college and university students, and recent graduates of Black ancestry in the age range of 18-34 residing in Ontario.

“Our organization’s core mission is to increase employment opportunities for Black talent in Canada’s auto sector,” said Christopher Nabeta, Executive Chair, Accelerate Auto. “We have built solid partnerships with organizations and supporters, and now we are providing them an opportunity to hire Black talent from our community and receive a wage subsidy. It will give underrepresented groups in our industry invaluable job experience and networking opportunities.”

What is the Accelerate Auto Access to Work Program?

The program is designed to connect eligible candidates with employers in the auto industry or related fields, fostering valuable work experiences that contribute to personal and professional growth.

Employers participating in the program will receive a wage subsidy of up to $750 (gross) per week, per individual, for a maximum of 10 weeks during the placement term. Accelerate Auto aims to place 25 candidates by March 31st, 2024.

Who can apply?

Employers seeking to place talent from within the Accelerate Auto community, meeting the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Black Ancestry

  • Age: 18-34

  • Young professionals, college and university students, and recent graduates

  • Must reside in Ontario
